in junior English teaching,has always been a difficultyfor Chinese students in English learning.The paper,taking English compositions of Grade 9 studentsfrom one junior middle school of Jilin City as samples,summarizes the types and characteristics ofmistakes in their English compositions and analyzes the causes of these mistakes,then put forwardeffective teaching suggestions,in order to provide suggestions for teachers in their writingteaching,help students reduce mistakes in English compositions and improve English writing skills.Key words:composition mistakesEnglish composition junior school摘要:写作是英语学习者必须掌握的四项语言基本技能之一。写作作为初中英语教学中要求最高且最难的内容,一直以来都是中国学生尤其是基础薄弱的初中生在英语学习过程中的难题。本文以吉林市某中学九年级学生的英语作文为语料,通过归纳、总结初中生英语写作中出现的错误类型和特点,分析导致错误的原因并提出针对性的教学建议,希望为教师在写作教学提供参考建议,帮助学生减少英语写作错误进而提高英语写作水平。关键词:写作错误英语写作初中Contents1.Introduction(1)2.Brief plays a vital role both in daily life and in study.In the increasinglycompetitive world,English is an essential skill for communication.In junior high school,writingis a very important language skill,which is one of the basic abilities to use the languagecomprehensively.Among to the four language skills (listening,speaking,reading and writing),writing is also regarded as the most difficult one.English composition can examine students'ability to use the language comprehensively,which occupies a large proportion in senior high schoolentrance examination.However,English composition performance of junior high school students is notoptimistic.As writing is difficult in English learning,students will inevitably make some mistakesin their English compositions.Students have different problems in their English compositions.Therefore,to figure out the mistakes that students made in their English compositions,how to dealwith them and how to correct them are the topics worthy of research and discussion.The paper,taking the compositions in monthly examination of Grade 9 middle school students as study samples,analyzes and summarizes the mistakes in students'English compositions in order to find outcountermeasures which can help students reduce the mistakes in their English compositions andimprove their writing competence.2.Brief Introduction to MistakesThis chapter elaborates on mistakes about its definitions and classifications.2.1 Definition of mistakesDifferent scholars have different views on the definition of mistakes.It can be divided intothe following point of views:Here are three different definitions from Corder(Corder,1967:170-171):First,errors.It meansthe linguistic expression that does not conform to the grammatical rules.The reason for this kindof error is that the learners'language knowledge and ability are not systematic.Second,mistakes.It means that the language expression does not conform to the social conventions.Some Chinesethinking give rise to this kinds of mistakes.If the learners pay more attention to them mistakescan be corrected easily.Third,lapse,usually called the slip of the tongue which is caused by somefactors about the physical or mental condition[1].Richard J.C indicates mistakes are the differences between the way learners use the language andthe way native speakers or people who are already proficient in this language express themselves[5].(Richard,1971:5)Rod Ellis believes mistakes not only refer to the content that is different from the way thetarget language is expressed,but also include the use of the correct way of expression in theinappropriate language environment[3].(Ellis,1995:9)Chinese scholars also give the definition of the mistake.Dai and Shu(Dai,Shu,1994:5)definesmistakes as the deviations in language use caused by the language learners'ignorance the rules ofthe target language.[7]2.2 Classification of mistakesAlthough different language experts and scholars hold different views on the definition ofmistakes,there are some common parts in their views.However,there is no a clear standard forclassifying mistakes.3
